Morning Thoughts...

Yesterday, I ended up in the ER. As you know, this is not a place anyone wants to be. I think the waiting is the worst part, but let me back up. Since my procedures a little over a week ago I have been basically numb around the places that were biopsied. I've had a lot of pain since the procedures but night before last, the nerves suddenly jumped to life again and hit 10 about 3am. I am still very swollen, because, well, that's just what my body does really well. I had a similar response many years ago when I had knee surgery. My meds for anxiety have been making me nauseous and so I haven't slept well in a while. All the makings of a perfect storm. I felt horrible Sunday morning and I was in a lot of pain. I took some Tylenol and went on to church, doing my best to just power through but by the time I was done singing, I texted Scott and told him I was headed to the Urgent Care just to get checked out, never expecting them to send me to the ER. The Dr. at Urgent Care was afraid I might have an abscess or hematoma and so urged me to go to the ER so they could do an ultrasound to be certain, saying I could not risk having an infection right now. So, I picked up Scott at the church and off we went. No lunch. Scott does not do well without food, LOL. I want to stop here to say that the nurses and Doctors and Technicians at NHRMC were fabulous. Very kind, took care of my every need and explained everything they were doing and why they were doing it. They took TONS of blood, put in an IV just in case I needed it for IV antibiotics later, and then took me to ultrasound. Thankfully, I did not have any infection. I have a lot of swelling still and those nerves suddenly coming back to life put me over the edge. I was exhausted from being in pain and not sleeping. So, they gave me some lovely pain meds and they were fantastic. The pain stopped. I was discharged and we made a beeline for Panera Bread so we could eat. I was completely looped on pain meds but I ate some soup and a danish and then we headed home. I then slept for over 12 hours. I took today off from work so that I can get myself back to semi-normal. I'm still pretty groggy but the pain is manageable. I'll take the more powerful pain meds before bed tonight if I need it.

I am so thankful for the prayers that went up for me yesterday! I am once again overwhelmed by your willingness to lift me up and believe me, your prayers make a difference. Even when I have gotten a result I didn't want, there has been another positive. Yes, I have breast cancer, but it is contained, has all the best markers and thus easier to treat. Yes, I am breast cancer gene positive...but, I have the better of the two genes. My prognosis is very good. I'm going to keep trying to find a positive in what is to come. I know that will be hard to do some days.

Last week I bought some new bath bombs and face masks. I think I'm going to go have a soak in the tub and put on a facemask. I think after being poked and prodded yesterday I deserve a little pampering.

One day I am going to look back at this blog and marvel at how God used each of you to get me through this trial. Thank you seems too small a word. God hears your prayers and they do make a difference. Thank you loved ones!
