Bundles....
"Ya cannae break a stick in a bundle." ~ Scotty, Star Trek
I ran across this quote I had saved in my phone from a couple years ago. I don't even remember why I saved it. I suppose it struck a chord with me at the time, but it does even more now. I cannot imagine going through all this without the support of my family and friends, as well as all the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers I've met along the way. These people are my "bundle" keeping me from breaking. God is the rope binding/bundling us all together. I cannot fathom how anyone could get through this without God, without family & friends. I am blessed beyond measure and I know it!
I had my pre-op appointments yesterday and all is set for my next surgery on Feb. 15th at 7:30am! I have to report at the horrible hour of 5:30am! I'm glad I'm first though so there won't be any delays. I am a bit apprehensive about the anesthesia this time around. Apparently, it was very hard to intubate me last time and they cracked my tooth and injured my lip. But beyond that, I have to have a spinal before they put me to sleep. The nurse said it's basically like an epidural, which I've had 3 times, but it won't make me numb. It is supposed to help with the pain afterward though which will be good. I'm just not looking forward to them sticking a needle in my back! Yikes!! Hopefully, they'll give me something to make me not care as much before they start that. I have to stay the night at the hospital and should be able to go home the next day around lunchtime if I meet all their expectations. I will not be allowed to do much of anything, especially picking things up, pushing, pulling, bending, etc. So, in other words...pretty much nothing, for two weeks.
I am going back to work March 6th, with restrictions of course, but Hooray! I will be happy to get my full paycheck again, I can tell you that much! It is going to be very hard to get used to getting up at the crack of dawn again. I've been getting almost 10 hours of sleep most nights. I'll have to go to bed at 7pm if I want to keep that up!
My physical therapy has been going great! They told me today they are going to concentrate on strengthening the muscles now that my shoulders are no longer stiff. Unfortunately, I strained my wrist today while doing one of the exercises. It is killing me now. Ugh. I've taken some ibuprofen and wrapped it up to try and keep it still but it is my right hand (of course!) so keeping it still is not very easy. Thankfully, typing is not compromised. Hopefully, it'll be better in a couple days. I don't have physical therapy again until next Wednesday and then I have a 2-week break to recover from my surgery.
The weather has been AMAZING this week! Sunny and warm!! I've been able to get out and walk with Bella some and it's been wonderful. I am so looking forward to this Spring when I am done with ALL treatments and surgeries and I can concentrate on getting strong and healthy again.
Right now, I'm home alone. Scott is out playing golf. The dogs are napping and it is completely silent in my house. I think this is the perfect time to grab a nap as well. Thank you for keeping up with me on my blog. Thank you for being there for me and my family. Thank you for being my "bundle" and keeping me from breaking! I love you all!!
