Back to my former life...almost...
Monday I had an appointment with my Oncologist after radiation. They did bloodwork and then he talked to me about the medication I have to be on for the next 5-7 years. He said the side effects are minimal and it reduces the chance of recurrence by another 40%. He said that my body still makes a tiny bit of estrogen even after having my ovaries removed and that this medicine would reduce it even further. He, of course, had to tell me that it would cause more hot flashes and possibly weight gain. Oh, joy.
Today I had radiation #7 (of 30) then straight to a post-op appointment with my GYN, home for lunch and then to the dentist for some major dental work. All my Drs are wonderful (especially my dentist ( Dana Shumate at Porters Neck Dentistry 😊) but I am exhausted and tired of being poked and prodded. My mouth is still pretty numb so I had rice pudding and apple sauce for dinner. As the numbness began to wear off I had a vasovagal episode and nearly passed out at the kitchen table. If my body could just NOT overreact that'd be great, thanks! LOL! I'm fine now, just my body being a drama queen. Bella came running over to me as I bent over to put my head between my knees and put her head against mine like she knew exactly what she was doing. What a sweetheart she is!
I am happy to report that thus far I do not have any bad side effects from radiation. It makes me a little tired but my skin is still ok. I know it will eventually cause some skin issues but the longer it takes to happen the better. My post-op appointment with my GYN was fine. She was surprised when I told her this surgery was a piece of cake compared to my mastectomy. She was very happy with my progress and though I am still restricted from any heavy lifting or very strenuous activity I can do a little more now. I see her again in 6 weeks for my final post-op appointment.
Tomorrow I go back to work after a nearly 9-month leave of absence! The only thing I'm not looking forward to is getting much less sleep. I am not a morning person and left to my own devices I sleep nearly 9 hours a night (when I am able to sleep that is) and don't wake up until around 8 or 9am! I'm going to try and go to bed early tonight since I've got some good pain meds to take for my sore mouth.
Jarod is home for Spring Break this week and he came home with a toothache. He went to the dentist Monday and found out his wisdom tooth was coming in and it had caused an infection. So, now I have to take him to get his upper wisdom teeth cut out on Thursday morning! If I had known this would happen I would have waited another week to go back to work. Oh well, nothing we can do about it now! I'll just have to go in late on Thursday. My schedule will be a little crazy anyway until radiation is over.
Scott and I are going to TN March 15-17 to see my grandmother and then my Dad & Uncle are driving back with us to pull a trailer with some furniture we are getting. My garage is going to be full until Taylor moves out the end of March and we can move stuff upstairs!
That's about all I can report today...more info than inspiration today I'm afraid. Thank you all for the continued prayer, encouragement, cards, gifts, and love! I have been so very blessed by so many wonderful friends. I am very blessed and I know it!
Today's Prayer Requests:
- Please pray that the pain from my dental procedure today will be minimal once I am no longer numb.
- Please pray for Jarod on Thursday morning as he has oral surgery. He is a bit nervous.
- Please pray for me as I return to work tomorrow. I'm a little nervous. Lots of information to remember after a 9-month absence.
- Please continue to pray for my Grandmother. She is being moved to the rehab center once again to recover from her fractured pelvis.
- Please pray that I would not suffer severe effects from radiation treatments.
- Please pray for me to be brave, strong, stay well and stay positive.
