"By Me, Kings Reign..." Proverbs 8:15

Four simple words..."By Me, kings reign" and yet in this year's election tensions they smack you right up side the head don't they?

Romans 13:1
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

Let that sink in..."There is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

Just in case you didn't understand it the first time, he said it again in a different way. We do that when we really want someone to hear and understand that we mean what we say, do we not?

Loved ones, I first need to say that although I have often voted Republican...I don't think of myself as belonging to ANY party. I belong to God. If I am on any "side", I want to be on God's side. I vote for the person who I think most closely represents my beliefs and those beliefs come from God's word. I will be the first to admit that over the years, it has not been very easy to discern who that person is amongst the candidates. How do you weigh one sinner against another? To God, sin is sin, period. It is all detestable and we all sin. So then, how can I choose who to vote for? Should I just refuse to vote for any of them? The bible says complacency is for fools.

Proverbs 1:32
"For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them"

Loved ones, many of you have picked up the sword of your "team" and run out to slay anyone who doesn't agree with you without stopping to remember that you are speaking to people, to individuals who are created in the image of God, just like you. People who are loved by God, just like you. People who, no matter what they've done, to God they are still worth dying to save.

Titus 2:11-12
"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to ALL people. It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

So my Christian brothers & sisters my plea is this...put down your sword. Stop calling each other names. Stop being hateful to each other. None of this is pleasing to God. Whether you consider yourself a Liberal or a Conservative or somewhere in between...you are ALL STILL children of the most high God. The God that puts "Kings on thrones". The God that "establishes authority". The God that "hung the stars in their places". The God that has EVERYTHING under control! This mentality of "us against them" has to stop! We are all "THEM"!

Ephesians  4
"I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift."

My skin may be a different color than yours. I may be from a different country, different culture, or a different neighborhood. I may be older or younger than you. I may disagree with you. I may not believe what you believe. I may vote differently than you. But I am the SAME as you and you are the SAME as me. WE are LOVED so much that WE were worth Him being tortured and beaten and nailed to a tree to SAVE. WE are brothers and sisters. WE are FAMILY, loved ones.

One thing is for certain, no matter what happens in this election, God will still be on throne. So whether the person I vote for wins....or whether the person you vote for wins...we have this hope, that God is in control. That we are God's children and He will never leave us or forsake us because He loves us beyond measure. We must trust God.

That doesn't mean that God approves of the actions of those in power. He may have ordained their place in power, but that person still has free will. God wants those in authority to do His good will...but He doesn't make them do it. They can make bad choices. They can refuse to follow God. But they are held accountable for their actions, the same as we are. God appointed Adam and Eve to rule over Eden, and yet, because they had free will, they chose to disobey God and they reaped the consequences. So is God sovereign over all? Yes. Does God approve of every action a leader makes? No.

So after you vote, and someone is elected President...what then? The world would have you gloat, condemning the one who lost, calling all those who voted for him losers and other things much worse.

1 Timothy 2:1-2
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."

Loved ones...WHAT would God want you to do?? Pray for your leaders, even if you don't like them. Because the best way to improve a leader is for that leader to know Christ and to do His will. No amount of yelling, screaming, name-calling, hate filled speech will ever do that. That my friends, is what satan would have you do and boy is that evil snake having a good time right now turning brothers & sisters against each other! Every time I see this happen on social media, my heart aches. It aches for those that are doing the name calling because they are supposed to be representing Christ's unconditional love to the world. It aches for those caught up in false accusations and evil, hateful words that do not come from God.

1 Peter 3:8-9
"To conclude: you must all have the same attitude and the same feelings; love one another, and be kind and humble with one another. Do not pay back evil with evil or cursing with cursing; instead, pay back with a blessing, because a blessing is what God promised to give you when He called you.

I beg you...WAKE UP...stop doing satan's bidding. Stop hating each other. Lift each other up. Pray for one another. Help one another. Love one another. Have enough faith in the God who holds the universe in His hands that no matter what happens, if you belong to Him, none of what happens here on Earth will matter because we have a promise for our future greater than ANYTHING this world has to offer...

Revelation 21
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place[a] of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,[b] and God himself will be with them as their God.[c] He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”
I leave you with this quote from Dutch Theologian & Politician, Abraham Kuyper: "There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!”

A prayer for our leaders, whomever they may be:

  • May they place their trust in you
  • May they seek God's will above all else
  • May they be surrounded by believers who will give them wise counsel
and help them remain strong against all sorts of evils
  • May they be protected from those who would do them harm
  • May they make wise decisions
  • May they honor You in all they do
  • May the power of God flow through them & may our nation be blessed
because of their obedience to You.

  •     AMEN
