I'm a Warrior...
"Every scar on my skin is a beautiful reminder of a moment when I didn't give in
and I walked through fire. 'Cause in the dark there is a light. Your truth it keeps on burning bright. Makes me brave to fight the fight and shout the battle cry.
You'll never stop me. I'm a warrior." ~ Hannah Kerr, Warrior
Today I had my radiation planning appointment. I was a bit confused as to what they'd be doing at this appointment. I thought I was having an MRI, but it was actually a CT Scan. When I arrived, I laid on the CT table on a plastic bag full of styrofoam balls, kind of like a beanbag. They got me positioned just right, shaping the beanbag around me to get it in just the right spot, then a machine sucked the air out of the beanbag and it formed a cradle around me. Every time I go back, I will lay in this cradle so that I am in the exact same position each time. They also gave me four tiny tattoos. They are tiny dots that they will use to line me up with lasers on the table each time. I was afraid the dots would be larger but they really are tiny. I go back on the 20th for what they call a "dry run". They will study the CT Scan they took today and plan the path of the radiation beams so they only hit where they want them to. It's all very technical. Radiation begins on the 21st and I go Monday-Friday for 6 weeks, ending on April 3rd after 30 treatments. During this time I will also continue to meet with my physical therapist periodically to check my arm for lymphedema (swelling). I am praying that it will not be an issue. Thank goodness for Google Calendar or I'd never know what I'm doing or when!
As I said before, I go back to work on March 6th. I will have to flex my time for the first few weeks I'm back so I can go to radiation each day. I am very lucky to have very understanding employers who have very kindly supported me through this whole ordeal.
Tomorrow I'm getting my hospital bag ready to go for my surgery on Friday. I'm very ready to get it over with and move on. When I think about what all I have been through in the last 8 months, it doesn't seem possible. I guess you never know what you are capable of surviving until you have no other choice. I feel a bit like I've been chewed up and spit back out some days. This week I have been so tired. I slept nearly 12 hours last night! I guess I needed it!
I can't think of anything else to write tonight. All I can think about right now is going back to sleep, LOL. So goodnight my loved ones! I'll update once I'm out of surgery and able to think clearly enough to write.
